Project

Water at the core of coffee growing communities of Tolima and Cauca

Introduction

Water management and climate change are increasingly becoming a problem in coffee producing areas in Colombia, with effects on the coffee production (coffee productivity falls 30% due to water variations) and in human health (diseases that affect quality of life).

The Project

Empower coffee growing communities of Tolima and Cauca in making the best decisions for their own economic wellbeing, environmental and social development by induction community-driven initiatives of water access and management to promote environmental sustainability, climate-smart coffee crops management and women leadership in productive coffee landscapes.

  • Integrated water management
  • Strengthen community organization for the landscape –water management. Inclusion of women and youth as key actors
  • Elimination of gaps in productive knowledge and capacity
  • Build commercial capacities and knowledge
  • Innovation of knowledge-transfer systems
